Think HTML-markup, you have a dozen markup tags which describe the text in ways which currently do not have a NSAttributedString counterpart.

For example you may have the definition of acronyms embedded in the text (as text attributes), a description of a link or similar, which should be showed as a tooltip when the cursor is over the text in question.
