Mail 1.2.5's colouring didn't use the headers, as I recall, which
probably explains your confusion :-)
The Mac I do Mail on is still on Jaguar, and therefore Mail 1.2.5 ( I
think that follows). I need to find an extra couple of GB free space
before I can risk the update to Panther, Mail 1.3.3, and the fun of
accidently concatenated threads
It's only new messages that end-up in a thread of their own.
I have always used reply because I belong to many lists and I'm too
lazy to remember the exact names. Nine of them begin with "web" and
six on the begin with "webobjects".
A useful trick is to put them into your address book, then you can
give them simplified names.
This requires actual typing, because command Y only copies the From:
address, which in this list is not the list name, it's the person
posting the message. OpenBase do it the other way around on their list
- the From: address shows the list. This can have a downside as people
familiar with lists like the one we're on now will assume that Reply:
goes to the person and Reply All shares with the list
Besides, it's to your advantage as well to use the new message button
rather than replying, because people skip over threads they aren't
interested in, so might miss one of your posts that they would
otherwise have replied to.
Time to move to Panther so I can see my cross-threaded posts as others
see them.
