finding all (OS X) Macs on a local network ?

hi list !

i would like to be able to list all active, OS X, Macs on my local network.
I'm pretty sure a trick with rendezVous is possible, but how ?

Note that i *do not* want to install a software on each machine (to make a rdv service visible), but to find all guenine OS X machine remotely... without any modification...
is there a particular RendezVous service, common to all OS X machines ? (something like presence_service, started at launch...)

i have an idea using "arp -a" in command line, but this will return me all machines on the network (PCs, airport base etc !). Is there a way to know if the machine at IP@ XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX is specifically a Mac ? (an OS X Mac...)

i thought using NSHost to find the name of a machine from its IP @.

thanks for your ideas !
