OT: /tmp vanished!

  • Subject: OT: /tmp vanished!

Whoa,

A little while ago I noticed that I could no longer connect to postgresql.

I tried manually restarting the rascal but failed. I checked the log and
saw that it was having a problem creating a file in /tmp.

I checked /tmp and it was no longer present! The directory had vanished...

I created /tmp, gave everyone rwx and turned on the sticky bit. After
rebooting, postgresql was running.

I noticed that /var/tmp has not been modified in quite a while. Should
/tmp be a sym link to /var/tmp. If so what permissions show on /tmp?

Enquiring minds want to know...
