Find list of applications suitable for file type

I'm looking for some sample code which shows how to get a list of
suitable applications to open a file.
I have looked in various archives and found no really good answers
(either no answer or reference to hidden API in LaunchServices).
I had a look at the CocoaTech available source code to see if the code
used for this was inside. I didn't find it.
Does someone have any pointer?
