I have a ~/Games folder, and I assume other people do that too (I'm
guessing there's probably some people with a /Games folder as well).

Oh, I forgot about /Developer/Applications as well. But why scan all of
the home folder? The only necessary folder is ~/Applications (and, in
my case, ~/Games)? Nothing else is useful.

Right, that's why you default it to where you expect stuff to be, but
give the user a choice to specify other locations.

Does it automatically update the cache on launch for modified folders?

I know. The main thread isn't blocking either, as it continues to scan
after finding the app. But the app never gets off the "checking..."
state. And when I re-launch Shovel it still never gets past
"checking...".
