April, I do not believe NSMenuItem's font color can be changed on
Jaguar at all. May I point out that Shapeshifter is not supported or
sanctioned by Apple... it is not really surprising that UI quirks
would appear when you use it.
Thats kind of what I was thinking.
In short, I think you're barking up the wrong tree. If your app works
on vanilla (Aqua) Mac OS X, you really don't need to worry, and
there's not much you can do
Yeah works fine in Aqua, so it's not a huge issue, but anyway. What
can I say though about using shapeshifter, I love the hard edges and
sharp corners of NeXT, Afterstep etc...
anyway.

Actually I did want to mention this. I do not particularly care to
change the color so much as to figure out why a programatically
created menu item does not show up correctly.
What is happening is that I use Shapeshifter on my computer, and I
run the NeXT Step theme for it. All menu items appear as white
against the black menu bar except this one programatically created
one. It's text remains black which makes it invisible. I know that
this bug is a minor issue but I wonder if there is something I am
missing that causes menu's to draw in hmm what is the correct method,
XOR (fishing way back to my Orca pascal days)? Anyway, to draw in
white on a dark menu bar and black on a light one.
April.

How does one change the font color of an NSMenuItem. I need for this
to be Jag and Panther compatible so I would imaging using attributed
strings is out
