[ADMIN?] Non-delivery messages

  • Subject: [ADMIN?] Non-delivery messages

I've gotten a number of messages that look like this:

> Sorry. Your message could not be delivered to:
> **** (Mailbox or Conference is full.)

from various ISPs in response to messages I've sent to *this list*
(not the individual person). I assume the receiving ISP sends this to
me because I'm in the From header, and there is no Reply-To header. I
assume that the list administrators think it's a good idea not to set
the Reply-To header to the list (and in any case, that might just send
these overflow messages back to the list)

Is there any header that can be inserted for "mailing-list messages"
that will instruct the receiving MTA not to send these overflow
messages? (Or is this something to suggest to ASRG/IETF and just set
my procmail filter to filter out overthing with a X-FC-MachineGenerated
header (internet bandwidth be damned, since a similar message also went
to *everyone* else on cocoa-dev as well)

Or could the cocoa-dev server be adjusted to temporarily suspend
users whose messages bounce?
