If you want to see the effect for yourself, do the following:
- Open the terminal and type "killall Dock" but do NOT press return.
- Find a "victim" window.
- Keep the terminal window frontmost, but hold shift and click the
minimize widget in the victim window. The victim window will slowly
minimize.
- While the window is still minimizing, press return to execute your
command in the Terminal.
Voila, a minimizing window frozen in time and space. The window still
works... sort of. At any rate, it's a damn cool effect and a great
way to show off Quartz, particularly with the Genie effect.
Sweet mother of pearl, that's awesome! I had previously done all
sorts of cool things with Quartz in Mac OS X, but the fact that the
window still almost works is really awesome. Perhaps somebody should
file a feature request with Apple that all mouse clicks should be
retranslated properly into the rescaled window/view/whatever, no
matter what kind of weird shape it's been smashed into. Thanks for
finding this trick, now I have one more reason to give to the anti-mac
people I know why OS X is so cool. :-D
Fun to do that on a web browser like Safari.
