I managed to dig up a little bit more information since I posted my request, and the answer seems to be that I need some sort of "setuid" tool or some such to make happen what I want to happen. Unfortunately, I have next to no idea what I just said. I'll just stick with NSUserDefaults for now since most users aren't likely to be using this app in a multi-user environment.
