NSShadow

Sorry,
if I have to apply an NSShadow to my whole NSView, should I create a new and
larger NSView and draw the shadow here? I already tried to apply a NSShadow
to my whole NSView, but since the shadow rect is large like the NSView rect,
the shadows itself falls out of the drawRect:rect so I cannot see it. So,
how to do? Do I really need an additional object?

Best Regards
