Determinating iChat status

Hi,

I would like to determinate iChat status (available/offline/away). I've tried to use AppleScript to do so, but unfortunately to make it work iChat has to be opened. Is there any way to determinate iChat status without opening iChat? I've tried to play with iChatAgent, but still nothing. Any ideas?
