Yeah, I considered this,
but Apple uses split-views in Mail, Xcode, Finder and Address Book just
to name a few. So, I would think that all these apps would benefit from
such a feature, and if Apple isn't providing an API for it's own apps,
then there must a logical reason to not doing it, right?

I think that the reason is simply that they don't get many enhancement
requests for NSSplitView.
I really think that they should give it a good upgrade sooner rather
than later - but that will not happen unless some of us start to file
enhancement / feature requests!

I was just wondering if someone could provide a technical explanation
about why there is no autosave available for NSSplitViews. I found
solutions to this problem that go back as far as 2001, so I assume
that the developers at Apple know about this, and are intentionally
not doing anything about it for a reason. But I can't figure out what
that reason might be, and I'm wondering if someone could shed some
light on this.
