[SOLVED] NSArrayController bound to NSUserDefaultsController

  • Subject: [SOLVED] NSArrayController bound to NSUserDefaultsController

Hi all,

two weeks ago I had to deal with the problem how to bind an NSArrayController to an NSUserDefaultsController so that it would be possible to store multiple sets of preferences (as e.g. Mail.app does with the various mail accounts the user creates). I found several relevant threads in the archive, and asked again in this list myself, and always learned that this was not possible for one reason or another.

I could not imagine that because this task seems to be such an obvious application for Bindings. If that very standard situation didn't work, then what would Bindings be good for in reality at all?

Well, I'm glad to report that this works just fine if you know what you have to do. Since a code example says more than a thousand words, I have put such an example on my FTP server at

	ftp://ftp.ritual.org/MacOSX/Cocoa/ArrayInUserDefaults.zip

I used the structure of this code example and the included necessary value transformer in a production app. In 14 days of testing, it worked absolutely reliably.

I hope this helps in similar situations.

			Bye
					Uli
