Has anyone read anything about the ability to add meta-data to files w/o writing an importer, i.e. to use the system as an alternative to Classic resource forks?


I could imagine Apple wants meta-data to always be generated, and it's all thrown away when a file is updated on disk -- but I really would like a system to store additional info for arbitrary files.
