Not needed. There's an NSApplication method to bring your app to the front. If you set your window's "hide on suspend" flag, you can simply pull your app to the front and the rest will work automatically.

See the carbon EventHotKey stuff. There's a couple of Cocoa wrappers around this that have been mentioned in threads about system-wide keyboard shortcuts on this list.
