Problem with some clicks not registering in 10.3.6?

Hi,

Has anyone else has problems with mouseclicks (or drags) not registering sometimes in OS 10.3.6 (I also had the problem in 10.3.4, and maybe before that - don't remember). I only notice it in the bottom about-fifth of the screen (iBook dual USB, 12in). But it's not constant. For example, I currently this message open in Mail, down to about that boundary, the Mail "status window"open at the lower-left to the bottom of the screen underneath the message window. I also have iTunes in the background, covering both in about the center of the screen, and showing at the lower right.

If I'm in iTunes, and click on the (visible) *title bar* of the status window, it comes to the front, and Mail becomes active. But if I click in the *content area* just below the title bar (1 pixel below), it doesn't register. But it's stranger than - this "non-registering behavior of the status window content area continues down, but *only* to where the bottom of the iTunes window is. So if I click in the status window *below* where the iTunes window ends (iTunes is still on the top of the heap), Mail activates. There is and odd interaction when I have the message window at the top, the iTunes window in the middle, and the status window at the bottom, where clicks on the left-bottom side of the iTunes window (default metal version) won't register, but if I click in the "metal" area directly above and to the*left* of the right edge of the "add playlist" button, it registers.

I do have the PrefPane sidetrack installed, but from the looks of the pane, it looks like it's completely off (everything is disabled). Is there a utility like "Quartz Debug" that can inform you of mouse events when they are received at the Window Server level (not the app level)? There is a good chance that my system is just screwed up somehow (don't have any idea how, but I haven't reinstalled since Panther came out..)
