Capture desktop activity to video - how?

Hi,

I'm trying to write a small cocoa app that captures the activity that happens on my desktop and saves the result as a quicktime movie. Kind of like a video recorder with a start and stop button.

However, I'm a bit stuck, after much internet searching I have turned up nothing so I think I may be searching in the wrong direction. Can anyone give me any pointers of:

a. What I should be looking for,
b. How it's done + any pointers to sample code etc.

Any help anyone can offer would be fantastic,

Thanks in advance,

a
