Limiting notifications to one document

I'm sure I'm missing the obvious here, but how do I limit notifications
to one document in a multi-document app. Do I need to set up a separate
notification center for every document or is there another way?
What I want to do for instance is to send a notification when some data
has been altered that affects how some views look. I only want to
recalc these views when data has been altered in the same document.
