NSMatrix selection problem

I have an NSMatrix subclass set to list mode so that I can drag select
multiple cells. The problem is that when I click between 2 cells, both
of the cells are selected. This is apparently the "correct" behavior
since the same thing can be seen by setting up a matrix in IB and doing
Test Interface, but it seems weird and wrong to me. Any suggestions on
how to avoid this?
