[ANN] TextMate 1.0.1

Dear list,

Not sure how many have noticed my absence lately, though even if you hadn't, I'm gonna tell you the reason! ;)

I've been quite busy putting together a text editor for OS X. I actually released the first version two weeks ago, but have held off the real announcement till I got the 1.0.1 update done, which fixes most of the reported problems.

Already it has gathered quite a user base, though it certainly also gathered a lot of TextMate-haters (so it's not a fit for all, just to prepare you! ;) ) -- if you want to check it out (and you haven't already) head over to:
http://macromates.com/

There you'll find mention of features and a download link. The program is $39 until the first of november, (after that it's $49) since I'm actually trying to make a living out of it (but there's a months free trial)! :) All v1.x updates will be free, and I expect _a lot_ to happen over the next months/years.

I realize that a text editor is a very personal thing, so after you've tried it, your first instinct is probably to send me a long list of all the things you'd like to have added/changed, but please consider addressing the mailing list instead, or if it's general editor features, wait a few versions to see if it won't be added -- I've already received close to 500 emails, and it takes a lot of my time to alone read them all (and I'm still in a mood where I try to give everyone a personal reply).

I should probably mention that the “goal” of this text editor is a) to be very customizable in an easy way (e.g. it allows recording of macros which can be used to give it new functionality in seconds, and it has strong shell integration, which leads to a lot of possibilities) and b) to allow a lot of different “editing modes” (for example move column selections around, overwrite mode, edit past EOL, etc.) to make it very easy to work with (structured) text in many different ways, to cut down on the “trivial” stuff (it also has snippets for this, which to my big surprise is probably one of the most appreciated features, personally I'd thought it were the macros).

But enough said, go check it out for yourself!

Thanks for the time, Allan
