[NEWBIE]: Writing a circular text editor question.

I have been reading up on NSLayoutMnager, NSTestContainer and NSTextView but have a question. I know you can replace parts of the NSTextView chain with custom subclasses. If you replace the NSLayoutManager with one that draws glyphs in a circle, similar to the CircleView sample, will the edit control do all the communication needed fro selection and carrot placement? Or do I need to write one by hand?
