is there a list of key codes floating around somewhere?
I want the key code for the apostrophe AKA single quote( ' ) key.

There isn't one. Key codes correspond to the physical location of keys on your keybard. Since keyboards have slightly different arrangements for different languages (so touch-typists can more easily reach more common characters, and so language-specific chars like accents and umlauts are available without having to control-shift-alt-u or whatever), key codes will differ from computer to computer.

Also, character code -> key code is not a one-to-one mapping. E.g. if you want a "5"'s key code, how is the computer supposed to know whether to send the key code for the five above the characters, or for the one on the number pad?
