Oliver,
That's because what you really want is to use the
bindings. It is 'almost' trivial (after you understand
how to use them) with bindings.
I recommend checking out..
http://homepage.mac.com/mmalc/CocoaExamples/controllers.html
as well, you can google on something like 'cocoa
binding examples' and see what you get.
