Those of us who have done so for years notice that the List-ID values
all changed, invalidating our existing filters.
That's but a doddle compared to the archival situation, though. I
located the new MHonArc archives, but they're at the same path as the
weird-but-reliable permanent mbox archives, which seem to be no more.
It's a real pity to sacrifice thousands of extant archive links, but
the prospect of no longer having the permanent archives available for
perusal and spidering is really a shock. From my perspective, they
were far and away the most useful and unique aspect of the Apple list
archives.
Is there a chance they've survived in a new location? If not, is there
any hope for their restoration? My local mail client search tools put
to shame any web-accessible search engines, so being limited to
MHonArc archives for the full back catalog is a big step backward.
... not to mention the tremendous loss of value in having all the
email addresses stripped out. I thought the HTTP authentication dodge
worked well, but this damages the semantic value of a list archive,
and makes it difficult to privately follow up an old thread that
predates one's own personal archive. It goes too far.
Thanks,
