I'm writing an application that, while not internationalized itself, will be used to generate localized content. In particular, I have some text fields that contain language codes ("en", "de", "fr"), while I have others which contain prices and thus would better contain *country* codes.

There isn't even any necessary connection between language and location--for example, there are a number of people here at Apple who are native speakers of French, or German, or Japanese, or other languages, even though they live and work in the United States.  We tend to refer to this as locale rather than localization; take a look at CFLocale.
