It takes a while to wrap your head around NSController and its associated mechanisms, but after a bit you should learn what's going on and it will become more understandable. There's really nothing particularly magic about all that stuff, it's just a really clever use of the dynamic nature of Obj-C. (Except for automatic KVO... that's voodoo that requires a deep knowledge of the runtime to grok how it works. ;-)
