Hello,
You all made some good points here. I guess my question was "What is the
business case for Cocoa for ISV's targeting OSX in the present or near
future?" I also wanted to get some technical reasons behind that. What
makes it technically attractive for desktop apps (Appkit, CoreData)?
Finally, how are developers reaping benefits from this?
This was obviously too broad a topic to be useful so that's my bad.
Perhaps I should have broken these questions up across several mailing
lists. In retrospect my personal observations are that these sorts of
decisions are driven largely by preference anyway. It seems the decision is
made and the reasoning for it is found later.
My biggest problem is that I just don't understand Apple culture and why
they make the decisions they do. It was really driving me nutters and it's
hard to ask questions about things you don't understand. Mr. Randolph did a
good job explaining this. I didn't think about the retail side and how good
they are at just creating demand for something. They obviously know how to
get into the consumer's heads and give them what they want.
Thanks for your replies and I won't post any more questions of this nature
to this list. ;)
