NSColor clearColor always returns black

  • Subject: NSColor clearColor always returns black

I have a custom view filled with white and am trying to give subviews a fill of "clearColor" but when I do, all I get is black. How come?

Intuitively, I would expect that if a subview's opacity is defined to "NO" and it's fill is defined as clearColor, that it would show whatever opaque view lies behind it, is that incorrect?

Thanks

Ken
