Open Recent menu

Given a particular document that is currently open, I want to look up its representation in the "Open Recent" menu. For example, two documents with identical names have their parent folder's name/icon listed next to the filename as a clarification; I'd rather use Cocoa's built-in code to handle this than reimplement it myself.

Is that possible, or should I just redo it myself?
