How do I tell the deamon to quit?

You have a few options available:
1. NSDistributedNotificationCenter
2. Distributed objects
3. Apple events (NSAppleEventDescriptor, AESend(), NSAppleEventManager)
4. Unix sockets

5. CFMessagePorts

6. SIGKILL or SIGTERM or whatever it was called again.
