I don't think that will be necessary. Have you checked out these Carbon functions:

KeyScript
KLSetCurrentKeyboardLayout

These would seem to be precisely what I'm looking for! Unfortunately, I haven't gotten them to work. :( I'm not sure if they are perhaps being overloaded by the NSTextField? They return success, but there seems to be no change.

I'll try asking around the Carbon list, I suppose.
