Just in case you aren't aware: using Xcode doesn't preclude the use of the command line for building and editing. Look up the "xcodebuild" tool for more information. Whatever you end up doing, you'll probably be happier if you structure it in a way that you can interoperate freely with Xcode projects, and this would be a good place to start.
