cocoa programmers, and if not, why ?
My guess is that it's because many of these components are
developed to match the feature sets of their pro applications, and
they are frequently subject to change. It's very, very, difficult
and costly to provide public components (frameworks, IB palettes,
et.c.). Apple probably just haven't seen a strong enough business
case in opening up the ProKit for third party developers.
Agreed. I've thought of releasing my framework (KioskKit?) which
would be composed of controllers, controls, IBPalettes, etc. But,
this would be very difficult to do as what works for my specific
needs may not work at all for others. Not to mention having to come
up with proper docs and code samples.
At the end, why Apple Products (i.e. Itunes, aperture, final cut,
motion
and so on ...) are so different from the Apple Acqua Guidelines ?
Most likely because Apple thinks that this is a good way to get a
competitive advantage. They're probably right.
And having this competitive advantage is definitely one of the major
reasons of not releasing my framework.
