Given that it's crashing while trying to release something, you should try running IB in the debugger with the environment variable "NSZombieEnabled" set to "YES", and make sure that you have set the debugger to break on exceptions. That will at least give you a clue as to what's being double-released. Read <http://developer.apple.com/ technotes/tn2004/tn2124.html> for more details.
