You can't run an i386 binary in Rosetta. Rosetta is a ppc emulator.

I should have been clearer: Why would anyone want to run a universal binary in Rosetta on an i386 machine?

And this is not only possible, but "You can force applications that have a universal binary to launch as a PowerPC binary on an Intel- based Macintosh": http://developer.apple.com/documentation/MacOSX/ Conceptual/universal_binary/universal_binary_exec_a/ chapter_7_section_5.html

But now that Joar explained a bit better, I see that his problem is a different one, and unfortunately I have nothing to say to his issue :(
