The code isn't pretty but maybe it will put you on the right track.
This is the single button like the Mail style toolbar.

I'll certainly reconsider. For me, I found Tiger Mail's toolbar
hideous
until I turned off text label and realigned it to the left (without
the
default big gaping space on the left side). I'd be interested to
know if
you guys still find that configuration hideous.
