Hello,
I have been using two PowerMacs G4 to do distributed builds for quite a
while. Just got a new PowerBook G4 and couldn't quite get the
distributed build system to work from the PB. The distributed build
process hangs after starting a compile on the PM's. After poking
around for a while and discovering quite a few Bad File Descriptors and
"Failed to Acquire Lock" log messages (on the PM's) I noticed something
a bit strange. The kernel version of Mac OS X that came with the
Powerbook is 7.7.2 (I just got it yesterday):
Darwin Ivan-Kourtevs-Computer.local 7.7.2 Darwin Kernel Version 7.7.2:
Wed Dec 22 20:01:20 PST 2004; root:xnu/xnu-517.10.7.obj~1/RELEASE_PPC
Power Macintosh powerpc
whereas on the powermacs I seem to be running version 7.7.0:
Darwin fluid.local 7.7.0 Darwin Kernel Version 7.7.0: Sun Nov 7
16:06:51 PST 2004; root:xnu/xnu-517.9.5.obj~1/RELEASE_PPC Power
Macintosh powerpc
Could this be the problem? Could anyone try to replicate the problem
(I know the new PB's just came out last week but maybe...). And what's
with the different kernel versions anyway? Ot is there supposed to be
a difference between the kernel versions that run on desktops and
portables?
Thanks.
