The Java install that you get from Apple is in fact Sun's official one (unless I'm very much mistaken), as opposed to the one you get for Windows is a Microsoft hacked up version (hence not being compatible with the rest of the world).

I don't think anyone uses Microsoft's Java any more. Didn't they stop updating around JDK 1.1? That's just too old.
