Why? Are you aware that you can bundle a shell script inside an application and (with certain caveats) call it programmatically? My knowledge of shell scripting is limited, but I would think that implementing your script to Objective-C (or C, or whatever) would be much more involved than in shell.


How do I determine if an application/daemon is running, the app/daemon has a pid and a socket file, if you have some source code for this I'd appreciate it.

I'm not sure I understand this... can't say as I'm real well up on UNIX, but if it has a PID, doesn't that mean it *is* running? Can you be a bit more specific?
