Apple is providing a service, gratis, to programmers that use their
platform. They have the right to moderate and administrate said service
as they see fit, per their stated guidelines, and your feelings on how
you think things should be done are just that... feelings and thoughts.
If you'd like to host the server resources and moderate the replies and
provide gratis support for Cocoa on a list as the Apple employees
regularly do then be my guest, make your own. Otherwise, don't cry
about how you feel someone else's toes were stepped on by abuses of
power.
Being a member of this list and following the posted rules isn't really
complicated:
1) Ask a smart question, get a smart response - this even has a
multi-page home on the 'Net, I suggest reading, highly interesting
2) DON'T discuss NDA'd materials - honestly, this is just common sense
3) Don't post others' private messages without their approval - again,
common sense
I'm not an Apple employee, I'm not a sycophant - but I do appreciate a
robust environment and low entry cost to become a developer in this
market. Apple provides a tremendous amount of resources to facilitate
this list (and many others) and the majority of its subscribers are
genuinely helpful to all queries. Publicly attacking a resource, and
person, on a mailing list for programming is not only rude but silly -
don't like his attitude, don't respond - but why bring it into the
light of public scrutiny when you open yourself up as you have over
what amounts to personal and emotional differences?
Also, what exactly gives you the right to publicly determine when
another person needs to apologize for their actions? I never voted for
you as a moral arbiter on this list and can't say that if said position
existed you should be it... I believe you should apologize for this and
the other e-mail.. but it's not my job to impose my point of view on
you or others.

I had little respect for mmalcom based on a prior incident with
another user
(I am not permitted to publicy divulge this information at this users
request)
but this just tossed out what little respect I had left for him.
This was the reason given email@hidden who was the
suspended party
and from following the threads I think the action taken is unjust and
extreme.
While I can agree he violated a list policy, I think the offended party
should have been the one consulted on the action to be taken or at
least consulted
on any recommended action but after seeing a public apology and seeing
some of
the lists reaction to this apology I have concluded the persons
responsible
for this decision should be suspended from their list duties based on
their
lack of professionalism and their inability to perform their duties in
a fair and
reasonable manner.
So the moderators have just confirmed that they can abuse the power
they hold
over anyone subscribed to the list and my respect for these
individuals has
just dwindled to nothing.
I will probably be suspended for speaking up but I believe the
moderators are
abusing their power and we as users have no options to prevent this.
