After googling for a while I havn't found any Cocoa way to declare and catch the press of a global hotkey. All I have found so far is that it is doable from carbon code, but with little documentation as to how to go about doing it. Anyone have a solution? Thanks a bunch.

The guys at RogueAmoeba have a set of classes that wrap around the Carbon APIs that do this. CocoaHotKeys3 or some name like that.
