Carlos,
I too work in the print/advertising industry and I
have been using postgresql for about 5 years. My
current projects are job tracking systems for a small
commercial printer and a small ad agency.
I have used MySql in the past but changed to
postgresql years ago specifically because of things
like transactions (now nested), triggers, and prepared
SQL.
If you are just starting out, the learning curve is
steep. But there are things in cocoa and xcode that
will help (the new bindings are great). MySql has a
larger installed base but they have a different
licencing plan now. That was one of the reasons I
moved to postgresql.
My recommendation is to start small with realistic
goals. If this is a first project, be prepared to
throw away everything a few times while you figure
things out.
BTW, at one installation I have 50 users pounding on
postgresql installed on a blue and white G3 (400 mhz)
OS X 10.3.7 postgresql 7.4.6. It hasn't missed a beat
in 4 1/2 years. I was thinking of getting an IMAC and
creating a new server....
