iPhoto plugins or extensions

Hello everybody I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this, so I'm really sorry if it is not.

I'm really new to Mac programming and I would like to make an extension to iPhoto, like sending the selected pictures to a Photo Site, or export all the selected pictures to another application. I have been looking for an iPhoto API but I could not find anything, could you give me some starting points on where to look for it or a general idea on what should be done? I would like to have an icon on iPhoto just like the Print Pictures or the others.
