Solved, sort of. The issue appears to come up when parsing Unicode (XML-formatted) keyboard layouts. Solution? Remove everything except Roman.bundle from `/System/Library/Keyboard Layouts'. The issue *may* have been caused by the libxml update in Security Update 2005-01.
