This took a while (I wanted to be polite and check back with the guys at RogueAmoeba before I link to their stuff), but I now have a link to CocoaHotkeys, the Carbon HotKey wrapper and keyboard shortcut edit field view:

It's a really neat bit of code. They have lots of localizations, but if you're using a language they don't have yet, I'd suggest you thank them by sending them localizations for that :-)
