NSMovieView and audio clicks

I know this is a quicktime problem but it persists even if I use the NSMovieView class.

I have an app which loads a file into an NSMovieView when the user clicks on an NSTableView row.
works fine until I play the sixth file, at which point the audio becomes littered with clicks.
always the sixth file, regardless of how big the files are.
and it's always the sixth file TO BE PLAYED.
loading into the NSMovieView doesn't count it seems.

I have tried using the QT API directly and got the exact same result.

any ideas?
