"real HTML composition features" is a little nebulous. But you can get HTML editing through WebKit, see /Developer/Examples/WebKit/Blot/ .

does someone know, if Apple is going to provide real HTML composition
features to an upcoming release of Mail?

May we use these feature from Cocoa - by means of a MailComposition
framework or such?
