Best cocoa interface for serial

I have a device sending information through a USB to Serial chip. The driver outputs to a /dev file. I would like to use Cocoa (rather than low-level POSIX) if at all possible to read/write to this device. What is the best way to do this using cocoa? Is it possible, or do I have to use POSIX?
