can't make an NSButton small enough

i'm trying to make the size of a button 13 x 13 pixels because that's the size of the icon image i'm placing on the button, using icon and alt icon. it doesn't matter which button type i use IB stops me from having it that size. also i'd like whatever button is used not to be visible at all, just the icon image that i've supplied which is circular (13 pixels diameter). so i'd like to make a button out of an icon basically. what's the best way to do this? (os x 10.2.8 and above). any pointers appreciated.
